Other Stories

True crime stories are always fascinating and heartbreaking to read.

From notorious serial killers to unsolved mysteries, there's no shortage of gripping tales to choose from.

Focusing on Australian Stories, particularly Queensland cases that sadly we have a generalisation that 'investigations' are carried out properly, some are, and some missed the mark from the get go.

Gathered below are cases of particular interest to me, due to the type of weapon that was used in my Mum's case, a long rifle .22 Winchester.

The Teacher's Pet

Lynette Dawson

I came across The Teacher's Pet when the podcast was closed down to due to Court procedings, it's was a massive relief to see Chris Dawson doing time for a crime that was unnecessary and selfish  to take a mother away from her two young daughters.

Shot in the Dark

Gwen Glover

Shot in the Dark is a story about a young Mum - Gwen Grover whose was written off as 'suicide' in Cairns, Queensland, in 1983

Gwen's sister Sue has been the driving force for this case to have an inquest due to the weapon used - a gun and Sue just couldn't believe her sister would leave behind her two young sons.

The website created by Channel 7 - Alison Sandy and her team, put together statements, medical reports and photos that were used from 1983 when the incident occurred in Cairns.

This very case is what showed me how the doctors should have noted 'soot' or 'black round circular burn mark the size of the barrel' for a close up bullet that was fired in this case.

Gwen's case help me in many ways to know the process was completed only 5 years after my Mum's death.

Process meaning:

Who does a report ?

Who sent the skin away to the forensic pathologist to be examined for the GSR

Blood and chemical report, called a BAC, and

who takes photographs of the body?

Which was the last GP doctor noted on Form 4?
